One of the biggest questions asked by “the online curious” is ‘How to Start A Blog?’  The simple answer is just go to a blogging site and open an account.  Still, there are several decisions ranging from strategy to tactical platform choices that can come back to haunt a blogger in the future.  Thus, in addition to daily posts on current events, insight, and just about any other aspect of social media we see of value to bloggers, we have created several content series that help take a blogger from a certain point in their venture to the next level.  Stealing from the age old saying, “you have to start somewhere”, our beginners series provides someone interested in starting a blog with the insight needed to succeed for the long term.  This primer will guide you through the posts associated with this series in a logical manner.  And yes, we answer the questions ‘How to Start a Blog?’

First, you don’t want to make mistakes that someone else has made.  Thus, it is mandatory to read guest author, Grace Boyle’s “What I Wish I Knew When I Started Blogging“.  After taking in some of the thoughts and insights of someone who has been there before you, you have several key decisions to make.  Fortunately, author Jerod Morris has created our beginner’s content series to help you get off to the right start.

The first content decision to make is figuring out what to blog about.   The answer to this question will help you to make decisions such as choosing a domain name.  Then. . . last post.

Once a new blogger decides what to right about, they have to make a complicated and confusing decision about where to host their blog.  Though not totally undoable, decisions in this space can cause a newbie blogger considerable traffic and create barriers for taking their blog to then next level.  Author Matt Lawrence demystifies the technical aspects of starting a blog with his beginners series that covers domains and hosting.   In this series Matt provides you the information you need to choose a blogging platform and get started.  If your decision is to self-host a blog, the series ends with two post.  The first helps you to understand the topics of  WordPress, domains, and hosting.   The second is a walkthrough on setting up a WordPress blog at GoDaddy.

Though most bloggers get caught up in technical decisions related to starting their blog, there are two areas of blogging that few consider from the onset.  The first is how they can use other social media efforts to promote their blog.  Author Hannah Newlin covers this topic in her social media introduction series.  In this series she examines topics such as building a brand through social media and evaluating the return on investment with social media.  The second area most bloggers never consider are the business aspects of their blog.  Author Derick Schaefer contributes to How-To-Blog.TV’s beginner’s series with a three post business mindset series that explores blog ownership, return on investment for blogs, and the legal aspects of blogging.

Whether you are an established blogger or just starting out, How-To-Blog.TV’s beginner’s series has a little something for everyone.  Read them and contribute to them with your questions, experiences, and thinking.  Let’s empower each other!
